Project Overview

Titan Flooring was appointed by Bouygues UK to deliver the specialist flooring and timber packages as part of the landmark restoration and redevelopment of Tower Hamlets Town Hall in Whitechapel.

The project transformed the Grade II listed former Royal London Hospital, a building that has served the East End for more than 250 years, into the new civic headquarters for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Following the hospital's relocation, Bouygues UK undertook an extensive programme combining the careful restoration of the historic building with new construction, creating 26,700m² of modern civic and public space while retaining the character and heritage of this important London landmark.

Our works incorporated a diverse range of finishes designed to meet the different demands of the building. These included solid timber boards with a magnetic backing system, providing a high-quality contemporary finish, alongside carpet tiles throughout the office areas and distinctive Bolon woven flooring to lobbies and corridors. Durable vinyl flooring was installed across back-of-house, kitchen and other functional areas.

The completed scheme successfully brings together the building's historic architecture with contemporary materials and working environments, returning one of Whitechapel's most significant buildings to public use and giving it a new role at the heart of the local community.
