A separating firewall built to accommodate a variety of special requirements.

Safety was a key issue in the construction of Leeds United Football Club's new Training Academy, and therefore specialist contractors Horbury Fire Protection Limited & MWS Joinery were brought in to help with the project.

The Group designed and built a 7.6 metre high separating firewall for the building. It had to meet several different criteria to accommodate a variety of uses, including a swimming pool, showers, physiotherapy unit, changing rooms, viewing gallery, implement store and indoor pitch.

A specific requirement of the structure was the ability to withstand temperature variations ranging from - 4 to + 37°C and humidity levels up to 100%. It also needed to possess various thermal and acoustic properties, and have a wind loading capacity of 0.429 KN/m_.

In addition, the pitch side of the firewall had to be aesthetically pleasing with a wipe-clean surface, whilst maintaining the ability to be tiled in the wet areas of the building. MWS Joinery installed all 1st and 2nd fix joinery together with W.C. cubicles and lockers. The project also had strict requirements in terms of budget and installation periods, which were achieved by working in close partnership with the main contractor.
